that thing happened to our family the 21 of July 2023. My wife and I woke up in the middle of the night. I heard something unfamiliar, a crackling noise I couldn't locate. My wife thought it was a weird bright light out in the hallway.. Then she caught the scent of smoke. Our house was on fire!
The house wasn't. We woke up a minute or two before the smoke detectors started and got out unharmed. Our 5 year old daughter was with her grandparents over the weekend, so she didn't have to witness the house burning down. The fire fighters did a terrific job saving the building right next to the house which contains a double garage, my beloved sauna and a lot of storage space.
But were we really lucky?! 90% of everything we owned literally went up in flames! It's a matter of perspective - isn't it?
There's always a silver lining and something to learn.
We lost a lot of stuff but gained a lot of perspective on what really matters! We are so grateful that none of us got injured. Things are replacable - we're not.
We loved our house and we're now in the process of rebuilding it.
As of April 23rd the physical labour started with the remains of the old house being removed. After that the new foundation can take shape. Total building time: 10 months.
Thankfully we had great home insurance which covers a big part of the costs for the new house, but not all. If you want to contribute to the rebuilding we'll be forever grateful!
We had big dreams for this house before the fire and now they're even bigger! Something good will come out of all this, I'm certain of it!
