Brick by brick...

Every house needs a strong foundation

So, we are reusing the bricks from the former fire place and chimney in the new house. Last weekend we started the work collecting, sorting and hacking off the old mortar of the bricks. The idea is to use these as the floor in the wine cellar under the living room.

I did some calculations and came to the conclusion that we'll need between 800-850 bricks! 😅 Even though the work is quite heavy it was easier than expected to hack off the old mortar and we made good progress - about 40% done in less than a day.

Lily made the work of finding the best bricks into a treasure hunt and loved climbing around in the pile of bricks and debris.

Important symbolic value

Besides that it saves us some money to reuse the bricks I love the symbolism of building the new house on top of, or with parts of, the old one. It's a good feeling that some things from the old house becomes part of the new one as well.

It's about the people...
